FSCQC FAQs
What level do I need to be before I can join the Figure Skating Club?
There are no skill requirements for joining the Figure Skating Club of the Quad Cities. Club skaters are those who want to get more deeply involved in the sport of figure skating and work with a private coach towards US Figure Skating testing and competition. Skaters of all levels may join the club. Some skaters continue in group classes while also working with a private coach. Skaters do not need to complete all the group class levels before choosing a private coach or joining the club.
When should I join the Figure Skating Club?
The US Figure Skating year begins on July 1. Skaters may join the Figure Skating Club at any time, but since US Figure Skating does not pro-rate their dues it makes most economic sense to join at the beginning of the season. The Figure Skating Club of the Quad Cities makes special arrangements with those who join after January 31.
How do I find a private coach?
All the club coaches who are available to teach private lessons have pictures and bios under the “Coaches” tab on our web site. These are also posted in the lobby at The River’s Edge. Skaters should approach coaches they are interested in working with to inquire about their rates and availability.
What do private lessons cost?
Each coach sets their own hourly rate, which varies according to their skating expertise and years of experience. Skaters may control the cost of lessons by choosing which coach they work with, and deciding how many lessons they will take each week as well as how long those lessons will be. Skaters pay at the front desk for their ice time and pay their coaches directly for their lessons.
What are the benefits of joining the Figure Skating Club?
Club members are full members of US Figure Skating, the official national governing body of the sport. They receive their own personal membership number, which identifies them for testing and competition purposes. They get a subscription to Skating magazine. Club members are entitled to special feature numbers in the spring ice show, participation in the holiday recital, and are invited to any club activities or functions that are held throughout the year. They may also take advantage of extra ice time the club purchases at the TaxSlayer Center during the winter months.
Where do I find information about joining the Figure Skating Club?
Skaters can find our membership information by clicking the General Info tab on our web site, www.fscqc.org. We also try to keep some print copies near our bulletin board at The River’s Edge, which is inside the ice arena, around the corner of the birthday party room, right next to the coaches’ room.
