FSCQC Code of Conduct
I. The Code of Conduct has been established by the FSCQC Board of Directors to provide safety to all members using the ice and to ensure quality practice time for all home club, associates, nonmembers, and guests who purchase ice time at the River’s Edge or Taxslayer Center.
II. All skaters regardless of whether they hold home club membership, associate membership, non-member, or guest status are expected to follow and uphold the rules regarding on and off ice behavior while on the premises of the rink.
III. Skaters and parents are required to thoroughly read all rules and sign the attached form, which will be kept on file with the FSCQC Board of Directors. If forms are not signed, membership will not be processed.
IV. All Club members are expected to exhibit good sportsmanship and be good role models. Remember, skating is a privilege, not a right. All skaters are expected to be respectful toward their fellow skaters, coaches, USFS officials, and guests.
V. The FSCQC is committed to promoting a positive and friendly environment for all skaters. Please treat your fellow club members as you would like to be treated WITH RESPECT.
FREESTYLE SESSION RULES:
1. Sign in at the front desk and pay for each session before stepping onto the ice.
2. The following are not allowed in your hands while skating: Cell phones, Stuffed animals, dolls, etc. unless the item is a prop in a skate program or used as a learning tool with a coach's supervision.
3. No glass or breakable containers are allowed rinkside. Drinks are allowed on or below the railing.
4. Food is not permitted near the rail or on the ice.
5. Please pick up all belongings (including dirty tissues, water cups, bottles, etc.) at the end of the session.
6. Parents, skaters not participating in the session nor other spectators should NOT loiter at the rail, doorway, or on the hockey benches. This is unsafe and it interferes with a constructive training session. An exception will be made if the parent is holding a phone or tablet to assist with a virtual lesson and must be off the ice.
7. Parents and other family members are not allowed on the ice unless they themselves are skaters actively taking a lesson or practicing.
8. Coaching by parents from the bleachers, benches, or railing is not allowed at any time. Parents watching from the stands should do so with decorum and refrain from overzealous applause or cheering during a freestyle session. Parents will be asked to leave the arena if this happens.
9. Access to the music box area is limited to coaches, skaters on the session, or adult music monitors.
10. If skaters must talk to someone off the ice, even if for a brief time, they need to get off the ice to do so or the skater will be asked to leave the ice.
11. No Horseplay – this includes but is not limited to playing tag or other racing games, following a skater in their program, or interpreting to another skater's program and line dancing.
12. If you are a less experienced skater, please be extra careful to stay aware of other skaters and to look ahead of where you are skating to see what others are doing or are about to do.
13. If you are an experienced skater, please be patient with the less experienced skaters. Remember – you were new to freestyle sessions at one time, too.
14. Please be understanding if someone gets in your way. It is appropriate to call out heads up or a similar warning in order to avoid a collision, but please be mindful of your tone. Rudeness will not be tolerated. If you accidentally get in someone's way please apologize and move on. We all need to be mindful of each other as we share the ice so we can all get our work done.
15. Remember to look both ways before leaving the railing or skating across the ice.
16. Keep moving while on the ice, as it is dangerous for both you and other skaters to stand still during a session. It is especially important not to stop in the middle of the ice or any of the jumping corners.
PLEASE DO NOT INTERRUPT ANOTHER SKATERS LESSON TIME, BE RESPECTFUL OF ANOTHER SKATERS TIME WITH THEIR COACH.
Right of Way
1. The skater doing a routine to music has the right of way. Orange belts are provided to help identify the skater whose music is being played. Please stay aware of which skater is doing his or her routine and do your best to stay clear of his or her pattern. The orange belt MUST BE WORN when you play your music to help other skaters know you are skating your routine. Should you choose not to wear the belt you give up your right of way privilege.
2. Skaters taking a lesson have the right of way over skaters not currently in a lesson.
3. Skaters on the harness also have the right of way as they don’t have the ability to change their pattern. Please be careful of the harness area.
4. ORDER OF RIGHT OF WAY: MUSIC, LESSON, PATTERN (MOVES), AND HARNESS
Music
1. Program music will be played on a rotational basis. This will be done on the honor system, with the responsibility left to the skaters and coaches.
2. After a skater's music has been played, that CD or another program CD may be put at end of the line to re-enter the rotation. Dance music can take the place of program music.
3. Not everyone will be able to play their music on full sessions due to the length of the program.
4. Coaches may cut the line 1 time during a skater's lesson with a maximum of the music being played twice.
5. Skaters may only play 1 song 2 times per session if there is a line for music. For example: if a skater has a long and short program or a freestyle and artistic, he or she can play each twice on one session if times allows. Once a piece of music has been played a skater must skate through the entire piece. There will be no stopping and restarting. The only exception is when choreographing with your coach.
6. If your music is over 3 min. and you only wish to pick up your program mid-way into the music – please fast forward the piece.
Coaches: All coaches have the authority to reprimand a student if they see action is needed. Skaters will be respectful of their authority whether it is their skating coach or not.
Violations by any member skater will be addressed at the time they occur by a member of the FSCQC Board of Directors.
First offense:
The Club member (if minor, with parent or coach present) will be addressed verbally (or following a session in private away from others) regarding the comment(s) they made or behavior they displayed.
Second offense:
If the violation occurs a second time, the person will be asked to leave the ice for the remainder of the ice session. There will be no refund of ice time.
Repeated offenses:
If a skater continually violates the Skaters Code of Conduct/Freestyle Rules and Etiquette, a letter will be sent to the individuals' parents and coach and a conference will be scheduled to discuss the matter. Repeat offenses will be reviewed by the FSCQC Board of Directors and brought before a Grievance Committee as appropriate.
