COMPETITION JOB DESCRIPTIONS

Ice Monitor
Ice monitors are stationed at the entrance to the ice during the competition.  They have clip boards with sheets listing the skaters in each event, and they are responsible for taking attendance for each event.  The monitor has a walkie talkie, and can communicate with the announcer, to tell them if a skater has scratched, or how to pronounce a name.  The ice monitor opens and closes the door to the ice surface for the skaters, and will be asked questions like “are we running on time?”.

Practice Ice Monitor
Practice ice monitors are present at each practice session.  They have lists of the skaters who have paid to be on that practice, and take attendance at the beginning of each session.  They tell the skaters when there are 5 minutes and 1 minute remaining in the practice, then clear the ice.

Registration
The registration desk needs to be staffed at all times during the competition.  This is where skaters check in, drop off and collect their music, and ask any questions.  The registration desk also sells programs and results sheets.

Hospitality
Hospitality volunteers make sure that there is food and drink in the judges’ room, the coaches’ room and the volunteer room.  Restocking and cleanup takes place continuously throughout the competition.  This committee will also be asking for donations of specific items.

Runners
Runners can be adults or skaters.  We need lots of them throughout the competition, especially during double-ended events like compulsories.  They collect sheets from the judges and bring them to the accounting room, take sheets from the accountant to the referee for signing, and post results.

Awards
The Awards volunteer runs the awards ceremony after each event, calling the skaters to the podium and presenting their awards.

Drivers
Drivers are needed throughout the competition to transport the judges to and from their hotel or the airport.

Set-up and Tear-down
We’ll need as much help as we can get setting up the competition and especially tearing it down after it finishes.  There’s usually food left over, so we get to eat, too!
